Walter Edward Demick, Sr.

Walter Edward Demick, Sr., 84, of Wetumpka, AL, died in the company of his devoted wife on Wednesday October 4, 2023.

He was born in Stockbridge, MA to Walter and Jeanne Demick on August 12, 1939. He was the eldest of 12 children and the first to meet the Lord. He led a life of generosity and responsibility. To his credit, whomever he met became a friend, and his friendships stretched on for decades. He and his beloved wife, June, forged a successful marriage of over 62 years. They raised 5 children and Walter was grandfather and role model to nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Jeanne. He is survived by his wife, June; his children Susan, Anita, Walter, Scott, Jaime and their families. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters and their families.

Visitation will begin at 11 am with funeral service to follow at 12 noon on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Wetumpka, AL. Father James Dean will be officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Eclectic, AL.

Walter graduated from Auburn University (War Eagle) in Civil Engineering and was an Auburn Tiger through and through. He continued his education at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He was a professional engineer and worked until his retirement for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. He was a parishioner at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Wetumpka, AL. He enjoyed a number of hobbies, old vehicles and tractors, and his favorite cat, Fiddlesticks. His favorite saint was Padre Pio.

Words cannot describe the man he was, the life he led, nor the hole he leaves behind. We are all thankful and blessed to have known him. We know he is with his Savior, Jesus Christ, and that we will see him again in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be memorial contributions to St. Joseph's Indian School in South Dakota, Shriners Hospital, or Saint Jude's Children's Hospital in memory of Walter Demick.
