Vicki Darlene Davis Williamson, 77, of Wetumpka, AL, went to be with her Lord on Monday, April 15th, 2024, at her home in Pelham, AL.
Vicki was born June 4, 1946, to William Wesley Davis, Jr. and Evelyn Maxine Snowden Davis of Mobile, AL. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert Ellis "Bob" Williamson, and her parents.
Surviving family include her two children: Melissa Ann Williamson Hawkins and husband Craig, Robert Nathan Williamson and wife, Kimberly; five grandchildren: Amelia Caitlin Hawkins, Garrett Ellis Williamson, Eli Alexander Hawkins, Abraham Dimao Hawkins, and Owen Lloyd Williamson; one brother, William Wesley Davis, III; and special cousins with whom she shares precious childhood memories.
Following graduation in 1964 from Bryan Adams High School, Dallas, TX, Vicki earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Mobile College (University of Mobile) in 1968. She married Bob at Myers Memorial Baptist Church, Eight Mile, AL, on October 25, 1968. Vicki taught second and third grade at Nan Gray Davis Elementary School in Theodore, AL, from 1968-1971. After Bob graduated from Mobile College in 1971, they moved together to Fort Worth, TX, for Bob to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Vicki had a call to Christian ministry that paralleled Bob's, and they served in vocational ministry together for over 50 years. They served at Alvord Baptist Church, Alvord, TX, and Pinedale Baptist Church, Montgomery, AL, before appointment by the Foreign Mission Board (International Mission Board) to serve as career missionaries in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe), southern Africa. Bob and Vicki served in Rhodesia one term and for another term in Bophuthatswana. In 1982, the family returned to the U.S. for 15 years of pastoral ministry, first serving at First Baptist Church, Eclectic, AL, and then at Moffett Road Baptist Church, Mobile, AL. In 1996, Bob and Vicki sensed a call to return to the overseas mission field and were reappointed as career missionaries to Cape Town, South Africa, serving alongside Westridge Baptist Church. They retired from the International Mission Board in 2011, having served a combined 21 years together in southern Africa. Before fully stepping down from vocational ministry, they served again at Mount Hebron East Baptist Church, Eclectic, AL. In retirement, Vicki was very involved at Good Hope Baptist Church, Eclectic, AL, and she particularly enjoyed her women's Sunday School class, her Women's Missionary Union group, her involvement in supporting a myriad of local ministries, spending time with and supporting family and friends, and going on various trips. In all of her years in ministry, Vicki was especially devoted to children's ministry and ministry to and with other women. She will be especially remembered for her gentle, kind spirit and her steadfast faithfulness for many years to come.
Our family would like to express appreciation to the wonderful church families we have served in ministry, and we are grateful for the love and support of Good Hope Baptist Church, Eclectic, AL, and of our extended missionary family around the world during Vicki's illness. We would also like to thank the special group of six caregivers from the United States and Kenya who served "Mrs. Vicki" in her Pelham, AL, home over these final weeks for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions through Good Hope Baptist Church, 1776 South Fleahop Road, Eclectic, AL 36024.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation at Good Hope Baptist Church on 1776 South Fleahop Road, Eclectic, AL, on Thursday, April 18, from 10:30 am to noon. A celebration of life will be held at noon with a graveside service to follow at Good Hope Cemetery near the church, Linville Memorial Funeral Home and Crematory directing.
