Thomas Gordon "Poppy" Lanpher, 60, a resident of Wetumpka, passed away at home on Friday, December 23, 2011. Tom was born May 23, 1951 in Conniaut, Ohio. He grew up and raised his family in Peoria, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Margaret Lanpher. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Loretta Lanpher; his children, Cary Thompson, Jennifer Mobley, Christina Lanpher, Rebecca Maushard and Sarah Gonzales; eight grandchildren, eight siblings, Patricia Mitkos, Martie Elgin, Vicki Huston, Debi Heine, Robin Brownell, Mary May, Chris Lanpher and Teresa Warram; and many nieces and nephews.
Tom was an avid race fan of Peoria Speedway, Peoria Motorcycle TT's, NHRA and NASCAR. He was loved by all who met him and he enjoyed his frirends, both old and new. Tom was a proud member of UAW Local 974 and served several years on the Executive Board. In 2005, after 34 years, he retired from Caterpillar. During layoffs, Tom also worked at Alway Brothers.
A memorial service will be held at "Poppy's Shop" at his residence on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Liver Foundation.
