Shirley Chambliss Jackson

Mrs. Shirley Chambliss Jackson, 96, of Tallassee, Alabama, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2024 in LaGrange, Georgia. She was born December 7, 1927.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM with funeral service following at 12:00 PM from First Methodist Church of Tallassee. Rev. Clint McBroom will officiate and burial will follow in Carrville Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Thomas Chambliss and her mother, Elizabeth Lay Chambliss. Shirley Jackson was the youngest of seven children and was preceded in death by her six siblings. She is also preceded in death by grandson, Galen Golden and great-grandson, Brooks Allen Davidson.

She is survived by her husband of 77 years, Harry Ural Jackson; and their nine children, Susan Davidson (David), Ann Roy, Tom Jackson (Kathryn), Patricia Langston (David), Karen Jackson, Jenny Schaefer (Lenny), Lee Jackson (Nancy), Clare Reading (Bill), and Nancy Bradford (John).

MeMa, as she was lovingly referred to, leaves behind a multitude of adoring grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

She was well known for her musical talents and her amazing ability to play the piano. She graciously shared her talents through the years and served as a volunteer choir director, youth choir director, church pianist, and quartet pianist.

She will be missed by her loving family and all who knew her and enjoyed listening to her play the piano.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
