Sarah Emily Travis

Sarah Emily Vaughan Travis, 84, of Eclectic, AL was called home for ultimate healing on April 28, 2024. 

Sarah was born in Columbus, Mississippi on October 4, 1939 to Francis Marion Vaughan III and Margeret Lloyd Vaughan. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Lloyd Vaughan and Francis Marion Vaughan IV, and son-in-law Jim Hughes. 

Sarah is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years Yancey Edwin “Ed” Travis Jr, two sisters Jenny May Russ (Bill) and Dai Wilson, her four children Frank Travis (Kathy), Margy Linares (Lee), Daiann Hughes, and Joey Travis (Cheryl), sixteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews (too many to list).

Sarah enjoyed every bit of life. While much of her time was spent taking care of her ever expanding family, she always enjoyed a good bridge day with her ladies. She had a distinct taste in fashion and etiquette, which she was happy to tell you about. Sarah and Ed spent much of their time together on Lake Martin.  She helped with the family business on castaway island and sold real estate at and around the lake.  Sarah enjoyed traveling, reading, cooking, and speaking with her family and friends on the telephone. She was an amazing caregiver to everyone around her. 

The family invites you to join them in celebrating Sarah's life on May 1, 2024 at Refuge Baptist Church. Visitation will begin at 11 AM with funeral service to follow at 12 PM. Rev. Steve Scarborough will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
