Dr. Patricia (Pat) Nolet Lyle, 65, passed away on 17 February 2025, after a long and courageous struggle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Raised in Tampa, Florida, she retired from the Veterans Administration a month before her ALS diagnosis (October 2023), and in the same month moved to her retirement home in Wetumpka, Alabama.
Dr. Lyle first honorably served the country for 20 years in the United States Air Force and followed that service with an 18-year career serving her fellow veterans and retirees in the Veterans Administration.
During her military career, Dr. Lyle acquired the rank of Senior Master Sergeant and held the distinctive position of Regional Band Superintendent. While assigned to the Command Band of the Air Force Reserve, Robins AFB, Georgia, (her first and last assignments) she earned the distinction as 'the voice of the Air Force Reserve' and on many occasions sang the National Anthem acapella at many professional sporting events in Atlanta.
Throughout Dr. Lyle's military career, her musical and leadership abilities were paramount in advancing Air Force public relations goals and provided entertainment in support of troop morale throughout the world. As a result of her exemplary service, she received many Air Force and Department of Defense awards and decorations and many unit awards. Dr. Lyle earned Distinguished Graduate recognition at all levels of Professional Military Education. In 1997, she earned an Associate of Applied Science degree through the Community College of the Air Force (CCAF).
After her Air Force career, Dr. Lyle graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama, in 21 months. During her last months at Alabama State University, she applied for and met stringent requirements to enter the doctoral program at Auburn University, Auburn, Alabama. Dr. Lyle graduated from Auburn University summa cum laude in 2005 with a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Psychology.
Dr. Lyle's exceptional educational achievements opened the door for her to begin executing her goal and calling to help veterans. In 2006, Dr Lyle began her career as a clinical psychologist serving in the Veterans Administration at the VA Hospital, Bay Pines, St. Petersburg, Florida, and in 2011 she served at the Joint Ambulatory Care Center (JACC), Pensacola, Florida. For eighteen years she provided compassionate care to thousands of veterans who had served in every military campaign from WWII through the War in Afghanistan.
In addition to Dr. Lyle's careers as a psychologist and professional musician, she was a master wire, stone and bead jewelry designer, was an expert seamstress and grew beautiful orchids and roses in her garden. She had a profound respect and regard for procedure and detail in her interests and hobbies. Dr. Lyle loved her fin babies (Koi Fish) and designed residential ponds at her homes in Pensacola, Florida, and Wetumpka, Alabama. However, her fur babies, dachshund puppies Ella and Ginger, were her favorites.
Dr. Lyle is survived by her husband of 41 years, Mike; their daughter Samantha Day (Jason); son Nate (Amber); grandson Aidan Lumpkin; mother Joan Lambert; step mother Rita Nolet; sister Alex Lambert-Brown (Kealani); brothers Mike Nolet, Scott Allen, Eric Allen, Kirk Allen.
