Our country is in mourning, a soldier died today. Mr. Marvin R. Phillips, age 80, a resident of Tallassee, passed away October 14, 2012. He was born December 19, 1931.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 17, 2012 from 6-8 pm at Linville Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, October 18 at 2 pm from the Chapel at Linville Memorial Funeral Home, Rev. Robert Thornton and Rev. Lonnie Skinner officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery, with full military honors.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Shirley Phillips; children, Jan Lock (Wendell), Connie Staudinger (Richard), David Phillips (Stephanie), Steven Phillips (Sherry) and Kim Couch (Rusty); brother, Cecil Phillips; sister, Oma Cain (Gene); grandchildren, Zach Slatton (Missy), Derek Slatton, Josh Lock (Morgan), Julie Lock, John Lennox (Nicole), Christina Chandler (Joseph), Jason Phillips (Blaire), Austin Thornton, Andrew Thornton, Shannon Phillips (Barry Fencher), Randy Phillips, Taylor Phillips, Mackenzie Phillips, Candice Rowe (Taylor), William Hall (Mary Lawren), Emily Yundt, Shawn Couch, and Ashley Couch; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Phillips was a retired TSgt with the United States Air Force after 20 years of service.
