Mr. Jack Payne Solomon, age 85, a resident of Tallassee, passed away September 26, 2012. He was born August 30, 1927.
Visitation will be Sunday, September 30, 2012 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm, followed by the funeral service at 3:00 pm at First United Methodist Church of Tallassee with Rev. Dave Barkalow officiating. Private burial will follow at Solomon Cemetery, Linville Memorial Funeral Home directing.
He is survived by son, James Marion Willard (Leah) Solomon; daughters, Suzannah Solomon Wilson (Darrell) and Jacqueline Solomon Payne; sister, Ellen Solomon of Luverne, AL; grandchildren, Forrest Payne Solomon and Hayden Barrington Solomon and dear friend, his “other daughter” Lee Ann Garnett Mann. He is preceded in death by his wife, Olivia Pienezza Solomon.
Jack was a graduate of Troy State University and Peabody Teachers College and earned a Masters Degree from Columbia University. His teaching career was at Kinston High School, Troy State University, Auburn University, Wallace Jr. College and Central Alabama Community College. He directed many college plays and authored numerous local books. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tallassee, where he taught Sunday School for many years and served as the church historian.
