In the tender first hour of January 27, 2018, Harry Samuel Sanders took his last earthly breath and peacefully ascended into the Kingdom of God. Harry was born April 26, 1935 and at the age of 82 looked and acted like a man 20 years younger. He enjoyed years of actively participating in his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s lives. Often times, he outlasted everyone in various games and activities.
Harry was married to the late Nadine Sanders for 64 adventure filled years before her passing 4 months ago. She was the great love and passion of his life and he spent his later years caring for her day and night. He never faltered as a loving and devoted husband. It seems that Nadine was his purpose in life and once she passed his spirit and his physical body weakened. He fell ill soon after her death and finally surrendered the pain of life without her to join her in Heaven.
“Papa”, as he was lovingly called by his grands, was an avid fan of baseball and loved the Braves, Auburn football, and Tom Brady (but perhaps not in that order). He was also a connoisseur of old Western movies. A great storyteller, Papa never missed a chance to tell the tales that made up the history of his life.
He spent 30 years working at Uniroyal Goodrich as a Quality Control Supervisor. His expertise in making sure the best quality in tires also coincided with a love of nice cars and right up until the end he was driving his fancy red sports car. He looked so good in that car. What some might have thought was vanity was really just Papa wanting to look good. He had to look good to feel good and he made sure he was always looking good and dressing sharp. He wanted to make sure he looked handsome and was well dressed for his funeral. This was one last act of supervising quality control.
Papa will also be remembered for his killer dance moves. As a young, strapping blonde in the 1950s and 60s Papa had all the ladies lining up to for a dance, much to the chagrin of Nadine. We find joy in the fact that they are together again, dancing through streets of gold, the way it was always meant to be.
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, Jeff and Alma Sanders and his wife Narcie Nadine Sanders. He is survived by two children, David Sanders (Mary) and Kathy Preskitt (Mike); three grandchildren, Allen Sanders (Sierra), Liz Sanders Harrison (Ryan) and Amber Preskitt Jernigan (Taylor); nine great grandchildren, Camp Jernigan, Zoe Sanders, Eli Jernigan, Elianna Sanders, Lily Harrison, Ava Grace Schremser, Gabby Harrison, Sophia Jernigan and Addy Harrison; brothers, Marvin Sanders (June) and Jerry Sanders (June); and two sisters, Betty Rogers (late Billy) and Marie Roberts (late Bill).
