Elzie Blake

October 16, 1929 — January 30, 2013

Mr. Elzie Thomas Blake, 83, of Pensacola, FL., devoted husband, loving father and loyal friend to many, went home to be with the Lord on January 30, 2013. He was born on October 16, 1929 in Equality, AL to Isaac Callaway and Susie Pearl Blake.

He spent his early years in Tallassee, AL and after high school enlisted in the National Guard where he volunteered for the Korean Conflict. While in Korea, he received a battlefield commission and was presented with the Silver Star. After returning from Korea he was reunited with his sweetheart and love of his life, Dean Graham.

Elzie loved to drive and made a career as an independent trucker. If he wasn't driving he looked forward to fishing, working on the family property, watching stock car racing, cooking and socializing with his friends and family. Most of all, he loved his family and would do anything for them. The one thing he cherished the most was spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Elzie lived life to the fullest every day. In the toughest of times, he managed to smile and make the most of it. From the very first day, his wife never left his side. The love they had for each other and the care she gave him during his time of need was immeasurable. He was strong willed and fought until the end.

He was a member of the Columbian Masonic Lodge #7, in Columbus, GA for 49 years, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason; a member of Hadji Shrine and a past Assistant Director of the Hadji Director's Staff. He accepted the Lord at East Hill Baptist Church and remained a member for over 40 years.

Elzie was preceded in death by his parents; a son Rodney Graham Blake; his brother William Harold Blake and sister Betty Jean Peters. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mable Dean Blake; his sons Randy (Patsy) Blake and Roger (Lorie) Blake; grandchildren, Danielle (Eric) Dominijanni of Twenty-nine Palms, CA, Brant Blake of Pensacola, FL; great grandchildren, Dylan Bellido, Kylie and Marcus Dominijanni; sisters, Sara Johnston of Tallassee, AL and Peggy McQueen of Wetumpka, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Harper Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola, FL with services to follow at 2:00pm with Cecil "Topper" Reid, Jr. officiating. Graveside services will follow on Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 am at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Eclectic, AL. with Linville Memorial Funeral Home assisting.
Pallbearers are his nephews; Bryan Blake, Donnie Johnston, Bobby Joe McQueen, Stan Ingram, Tim Graham and Keith Peters.
Honorary pallbearers are present and past members of the Hadji Director's Staff.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Herb Gannon, as well as the nurses and assistants of Covenant Hospice for their compassion and excellent care during his time of need. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Covenant Hospice or the Hadji Children’s Transportation Fund.
