On January 12, 2023, Ellen Abrams Carnley passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home with her children by her side. Her incredible zest for life and will to live remained strong until the end.
Ellen was born in Tallassee, Alabama to Marion Craft and Mary Ellen Abrams on October 14, 1951. She grew up in Kent, AL and married C.L. (Rick) Carnley on December 20, 1969. Rick and Ellen began their life together in Montgomery, AL where their two children were born. She and Rick later moved to Port Orange, FL where Ellen spent many years as a stay-at-home Mom. After the kids were grown, Ellen began her career as an Account Executive and later called Palm Harbor, FL home for many years. Upon retiring in 2016, Ellen moved to Charleston, SC to embrace her new life as MeMe to her grandchildren. After a few years, she decided to move back to Port Orange, home to some of her closest friends and two of her most favorite things, gardening and walks on the beach. She loved her little town and everything in it.
A church service will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 2 pm CST at Bethlehem East Baptist Church, 7561 Upper River Rd, Tallassee, AL with graveside immediately following.
Ellen enjoyed gardening, hosting friends and relatives in her home, riding Harley’s with her husband, making biscuits and cookie cakes, and dancing to Wipeout. She loved riding horses and shared that passion with her granddaughter. She was an animal lover, taking in numerous dogs and cats throughout her life. She was a true Southern Belle with the accent and fiery personality to match. Ellen never met a stranger. Her love for family and friends was truly magical and nothing meant more to her.
Ellen was preceded in death by her parents Marion Craft and Mary Ellen Abrams and her husband Rick Carnley. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: a daughter, Christy of Clearwater, FL, a son, Scott (Emily) of Charleston, SC, her grandchildren Ella Craft and Eli Collins, brothers, Donald Abrams and Kenneth Abrams, sister-in-law Tessa Carnley McCord (David) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial contributions can be made to STAR Ranch Rescue, 970 Rabbit Skin Rd., Waynesville, NC 28785.
When tomorrow starts without me
And I’m not here to see
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me
I wish you wouldn’t cry
The way you did today
While thinking of the many things
We did not get to say
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you
Each time that you think of me
I know you will miss me too
When tomorrow starts without me
Please try to understand
That an angel came and called my name
And took me by the hand
The angel said my place was ready
In Heaven far above
And that I would have to leave behind
All those I dearly love
But when I walked through Heaven’s Gates
I felt so much at home
When God looked down and smiled at me
From his golden throne
He said This is Eternity
And all I promised you
Today for life on earth is done
But here it starts a new
I promise no tomorrow
For today will always last
And since each day’s the exact same way
There is no longing for the past
So when tomorrow starts without me
Do not think we’re apart
For every time you think of me
Remember I’m right here in your heart
