Donald James Barnes

March 20, 1968 — August 13, 2022

Donald James Barnes, 54, of Tallassee, passed away August 13, 2022. He was born March 20, 1968.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 17, 2022 from 1 to 2 PM at Macedonia Christian Church. Funeral service will follow at the church at 2 PM with Bro. David Hooks officiating. Graveside service will follow at Carrville Cemetery.

He is survived by his loving wife Vicky of 15 years (his everything), his mother Paulette Barnes, his stepson Chris Thrash (Amy), brothers Jason Barnes and Jeremy Barnes, and his sister Stacey Gibson (Jimmy). Donnie is also survived by his two beautiful Granddaughters, Ella and Kate Thrash; his two special nieces, McKenzie and Bette Gibson; two sisters-in-law Sandra Hall and Tammy (Terry) Dickerson; and many aunts, uncles, and dear cousins. He is preceded in death by his father Ed Barnes and his precious fur babies Dancer, Sally, and Lisa.

Donnie was an awesome friend to so many and he loved them very much. He was a Blind Vendor with the State of Alabama’s Business Enterprise Program for nearly 30 years. He is affectionately known around town as “Snack Daddy”. Not only did Donnie have friends close by but he had them all around the world after meeting new people at concerts that he and his brother Jason frequented (Donnie never met a stranger). Donnie was an avid cruiser with his precious wife Vicky. Even though Donnie couldn’t see, his favorite TV show was Star Trek and he watched it often. And we will never forget how Donnie greeted his Facebook friends each day:  “Good Morning, My Southern Brothers and Sisters!” Donnie will be greatly missed by anyone that knew him.

Pallbearers are Eric Lynn, Tim Walters, Scott Alexander, Rodney Mathis, Brad Newman, Clay Brantley, Kenny Ray Sears, and Randy Musick.
