Charles Harlan Owenby

Charles Harlan Owenby, age 75, of Eclectic, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on December 21, 2024. He was born on April 21, 1949 in McCreery, West Virginia to the late Avery Herbert Owenby and Marguerite Wood Owenby. Charles was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather and leaves a legacy of service to his country and to God.

He is preceded in death by his parents; siblings David Keith, Loretta Yvonne, and Judith Lynn, and his daughters Pratha Owenby Crozier and April Owenby Holton.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joy Gabel Owenby; siblings Shirley Owenby Headley, Donald Owenby and Douglas Owenby; children Charlette Owenby Wilson, Christopher Owenby, Michael Owenby Manz, Grace Owenby Williams, Erin Owenby Wilson, Meaghen Joy Owenby and Harlan Scott Owenby. Grandchildren Allyssa Rowe, Kati and Faith Crozier; Brianna Harris and Leah Wilson; Madison, Hayden and Kyle Holton; Merideth and Michelle Owenby; Jermarcus, MyKale, and Isaiah Williams; Avery Wilson; Kelsey, Kenzie, Brennan, Harlan, and Kaylee Anthony; LilyBelle and Violet Owenby. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Charles spent two years active duty in the United States Navy and 25 years in the Navy Reserves for a combined total of 27 years to his country. God, family, and country were very important to him and shaped the way he lived his life and raised his children and family. He was a member of First Baptist Church Eclectic where he served faithfully in many areas over the last 46 years. In addition to teaching plumbing and psychology at Ingram State Technical College, Charles served on the Alabama State Plumbing Board which included serving on the Gas Fitters Examining Board. After his retirement from teaching, he continued to serve on the state plumbing board as well as building inspector for the town of Eclectic. He never met a stranger and always made everyone feel loved and welcomed.

Service information is as follows: On Thursday, December 26, 2024, First Baptist Church Eclectic will be conducting a visitation at 10:00 am followed by memorial service at 11:00 am.
