Former Tallassee resident Andrew Goodwin Hornsby, 88, passed away the morning of September 1, 2013.
Mr. Hornsby was born December 25, 1924 in Tallapoosa County to Calvin and Mae Hornsby. He was the last survivor of his 4 siblings.
He enlisted in the United States Air Force during World War II, serving in France, Germany, and England from 1943 to 1946. He married Sara Hammock Hornsby and enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
Mr. Hornsby retired from Mount Vernon Mills in Tallassee after working for 40 years there. He was a deacon at River Road Baptist Church. He lived in Tallassee until he moved to the Village at Cook Springs in Cook Springs, Alabama in 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Sara, and three children: Patsy Huey, Janice Scarrette (David), and Larry Hornsby (Carol). Also surviving are his 8 granddaughters and grandson: Pamela Thornell, Alicia Diego (Miguel), Beth Acreman, Martha Thornell (Rodney), Laurie Knowles (Steve), Melissa Shouse (Danny), Andrea Hannifan (Matt), Drew Hornsby, and Laura Hornsby Lesley (Justin). He has 10 surviving great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on September 2 at 1pm with funeral services at 2pm at Macedonia Christian Church, 2685 Macedonia Road in Tallassee, Alabama. A graveside service will follow in the church's adjoining cemetery. Linville Memorial Funeral Home is coordinating arrangements. Officiants are Reverend John Sparks and Reverend Floyd Carmack. Pall bearers are: Kyle Acreman, Miguel Diego, Andy Hornsby, Drew Hornsby, Justin Lesley, and Eric Pugh.
